Ellen Custer and I sat on the patio of a Galleria eating establishment recently, discussing our work in corporate communications. The subject is an ongoing one for us: How to ensure that our work meets client expectations; yet counseling and advising clients on the most judicious and practical approach for the intended result. The role of the communications professional, like other service professions, keeps changing. Job descriptions for generalists vs. specialists sometimes get muddled, and while, by necessity, many of us can wear several hats, most agree that an integrated team with a strong project management interface is the best approach for creative success. I always enjoy these discussions. I value Ellen’s problem-solving skills and seek her out for brainstorming and idea generation. In fact, she is but one of several of Houston’s experienced, talented communicators whom have helped me deliver quality work over the years. I hope to engage more of them in discussion here; so, stay tuned.
